Aix-en-Provence is only 27 kilometres north of Marseille-Provence airport, and the drive takes about half an hour. It is one of the shortest and most straightforward airport transfers in France, which makes it easy to underestimate the awkward part: the old centre of Aix.
Aix is a walking city. The streets inside the ring of boulevards are narrow, one-way and partly pedestrian, and many of the best hotels and rental apartments are on streets a large vehicle cannot enter.
