Orly is the closer of the two main Paris airports, about 18 kilometres south of the city. A transfer normally takes 30 to 45 minutes via the A6 and the périphérique, which makes it one of the quickest airport runs in France when the road is clear.
As at Charles de Gaulle, Paris taxis run a regulated flat rate from Orly: €37 to the Left Bank and €44 to the Right Bank, at any hour, luggage and tolls included. Orly sits south of the river, so for most travellers the cheaper Left Bank rate applies. It is a fair price, and the honest comparison is not about money but about the queue and about who is waiting for you.
Orly has been reorganised into four connected buildings, Orly 1 to Orly 4, and travellers regularly end up at the wrong one. Orly 1 and 2 form the old West terminal, Orly 3 and 4 the old South. We take the terminal from your flight number rather than from what you remember of the airport, and the driver stands at the correct arrivals exit with a name sign.
Since 2024 metro line 14 runs directly to Orly, which is a genuine improvement on the old Orlyval-plus-RER route and reaches Châtelet in around half an hour. It is excellent if you are travelling light. With two large cases, a child and a hotel that is a further ten minutes' walk from the metro, the calculation changes quickly.
