Beauvais Airport to Paris: Every Option Compared (Shuttle, Train, Private Taxi)

Low-cost carriers sell Beauvais-Tillé as "Paris Beauvais". The airport is 84 km north of the city, roughly the distance from central London to Brighton, and it has no railway station. That single geographic fact shapes every transfer decision you will make, and it catches out a remarkable number of travellers who booked a 6:45 am departure without checking how they would reach it.

Where Beauvais actually is

The airport sits just outside the town of Beauvais in the Oise département, reached from Paris by the A16 motorway. Traffic on the A16 is usually light compared with the roads around Charles de Gaulle, so the journey is more predictable than the distance suggests — but it is still well over an hour whichever way you cover it.

Option 1: the official shuttle to Porte Maillot

The airport's own coach service is the default. It leaves from directly outside the terminal and terminates at Porte Maillot on the western edge of the 17th arrondissement, next to the Palais des Congrès.

Price and frequency

• Fare: €17.90 bought at the airport counter, €16.90 if you book online in advance.
• Frequency: roughly every 30 minutes, timed around flight arrivals and departures.
• Journey time: 75 to 90 minutes depending on traffic on the A16 and the périphérique.

The part people forget

Porte Maillot is not central Paris. It is a transport interchange on the ring road. From there you still need metro line 1, RER C or a taxi to reach your hotel, which for most visitors adds 20 to 40 minutes and a set of stairs. If you land at 11 pm, that final leg happens when the metro is thinning out and the taxi queue at Maillot is long. Counted honestly, a shuttle journey to a hotel in the Marais is closer to two hours than to 90 minutes.

Option 2: the train, and why it rarely works

There is a Beauvais railway station, but it is about 4 km from the terminal — a local bus or a short taxi ride away. From that station the journey to Gare du Nord takes roughly an hour and a quarter, often with a change, on a regional service that is not timed around flights.

Add the transfer to the station, the wait for the train and the metro at the Paris end and you are looking at two and a half hours for a saving that rarely exceeds a few euros. The train makes sense if you are heading somewhere else in the Oise or Picardy, not if your destination is Paris.

Option 3: a private transfer

A pre-booked car covers the same 84 km in 75 to 90 minutes — the same as the coach, because both use the A16 — with the difference that the journey ends at your address rather than at a ring-road interchange. The driver meets you inside arrivals, which matters at Beauvais because the terminal is small and the pickup area is compact and busy after each wave of arrivals.

Beauvais is outside the Paris flat-rate zone

The regulated flat fares you may have read about — €56 and €65 from Charles de Gaulle, €37 and €44 from Orly — apply only to those two airports. Beauvais is not covered by any of them. Going to Disneyland from Beauvais

There is no shuttle, train or coach linking Beauvais to Disneyland Paris. The journey crosses the whole northern and eastern side of the Île-de-France region, roughly 120 km, and every public-transport route involves at least two changes in Paris with luggage. What the terminal is actually like

Beauvais-Tillé is a single-building airport built around low-cost turnarounds. Arrivals and departures share a compact concourse, there is very little seating, and the food offer is limited. None of that matters if your onward transport is organised; all of it matters if you arrive at 11 pm to find the last coach gone.

Two practical consequences follow. First, the pickup area outside is small, so a pre-booked driver will normally meet you inside the arrivals area rather than circling the kerb. Second, there is nowhere comfortable to wait out a two-hour gap in the coach timetable, which is the situation a surprising number of passengers on delayed evening flights find themselves in.

What about driving yourself?

Car hire desks operate at the terminal and the A16 is an easy drive. The problem is the other end. Parking in central Paris is expensive and scarce, most hotels have no car park, and the low-emission zone rules that apply across the Greater Paris area catch a proportion of hire vehicles and all older ones. For a stay entirely inside Paris, a hire car is a liability rather than an asset. It only makes sense if the trip continues into Normandy, Picardy or the Loire — in which case collecting the car later, in the city, is usually simpler than driving it in from Beauvais.

Timing your arrival and departure

Flights into Beauvais cluster at the ends of the day because that is how low-cost schedules work. The practical effects are worth planning for:

• Late evening arrivals. Check the last shuttle departure against your scheduled landing, then subtract 30 minutes for disembarkation and baggage. If the margin is thin, arrange the transfer in advance rather than gambling.
• Very early departures. A 6:45 am flight means being at the terminal by about 5:15 am, which means leaving Paris around 3:30 am. No public transport covers that. The choice is a booked car or a hotel near the airport the night before.
• Sunday evenings. The A16 and the périphérique both carry returning weekend traffic. Add 15 to 20 minutes to any estimate.

Which option should you choose?

• Travelling alone, light, in daylight, to a hotel near line 1: the shuttle is good value and you should book it online for the lower fare.
• Arriving after 10 pm or before 6 am: check the shuttle timetable against your flight before assuming it exists; late flights routinely land outside coach hours.
• Three or more travellers, or any checked bags: compare a per-vehicle price against the sum of every seat plus the metro. The gap is usually smaller than people expect.
• Tight morning departure: a booked car at a fixed hour removes the single biggest risk in the whole trip.
